Dr. Maureen Huppe
Principal
“As we look ahead into the next century, leaders will be those who empower others.” Bill Gates Founder and CEO Microsoft
This quote in a microcosm would have to describe our Maureen Huppe, Principal of Nativity School. Her willingness, drive and desire to empower a younger generation to control their own future and destiny is unparalleled.
In her upbringing with a full house of 8 brothers and sisters I am sure that finding her niche was one that she had to strive and work hard for which was a foundation that would serve her well in the coming years needless to say.
That sheer determination from a young age drove Dr. Huppe with a passion to teach and it all started after elementary and high school where she attended St. Mary’s of the Plains College and received her BS in 1978.
At that point after graduating from College she was on her dramatic transformation from one of eight children to the leader of 4th grade classes at Queen of the Holy Rosary. After a successful period at Queen of the Holy Rosary Dr. Huppe decided to dig back into her own roots and start her own large family. Her sabbatical with her children was well earned and lasted 5 years, but after time spent nurturing them she felt the pangs of teaching tugging at her once again.
Returning to teach at Holy Cross School and taking over their Math and Science classes for the 7th & 8th grade levels fit the bill for a time. She also held the same position adding religion to her repertoire with Holy Spirit School where her own children could attend as well.
Having classes to teach, papers to grade, and her own brood to look after and nurture was not enough for this well rounded future leader. All the while that this was transpiring, Dr. Huppe was attending classes at UMKC to further her education where she received her MS in 1998 and then consequently completed her PHD at KU to round out the educational trifecta!
After receiving her MS from UMKC she was hired as the Vice Principal at Holy Cross and the natural progression to Principal at St. Pius X in Mission Kansas where she had two wonderful years of achievements. As loyal and dedicated a person as we know her to be Dr. Huppe returned to Holy Cross as Principal where it almost all started and remained there for 7 fruitful years.
We arrive to the present where all have the opportunity at Nativity to see the true leader that she has become after her journey of hard work, dedication and drive are shining through. Nativity School as well as the parish in general are fortunate indeed that Dr. Huppe chose to become part of our extended family.
